For years the Georgia Games has been fighting to stay alive despite the lack of state appropriations. It now is at the most critical point ever, and we need your help if we are to have the Games this year and in the future. Time is of the essence! Do you think the Georgia Games should be eliminated or continued? The House of Representatives voted today to eliminate the Georgia Games. House Bill (HB) 868 is now pending in the Senate so they soon will determine the fate of Georgia's official amateur games. Because of sponsors and volunteers, we have been able to continue with no state funding the last 12 years, but if the state designation is removed this would be very difficult, probably impossible. If you think the Georgia Games should be continued, it is important that you email Lieutenant Casey Cagle now -- casey.cagle@ltgov.ga.gov<mailto:casey.cagle@ltgov.ga.gov. It should be a personal message stating why the Games are important to you and your family and others -- if the Games led to participation in regional or national events or other opportunities that could be mentioned. It also is important that you send a similar email to your Senator. All legislators are very busy so short emails are best - just mention HB 868 on subject line or in the message, include a plea to continue the Georgia Games, say why you are interested and show your home address. To find the email for your Senator, go to http://openstates.org. <http://openstates.org In addition to emailing, if you know your Senator, you may want to call his office and leave a very short message following up on the email and asking that he or she be told of your opposition to HB 868. The same link will give you the phone number. Please share this with others in your network. The action by you and others will play the key and maybe the determining role in whether or not the successful Georgia Games are continued. Again: Time is of the essence! If you believe the Games should be continued, make it known to the Lieutenant Governor and your State Senator immediately. Thank you for your support!
